Doug Wheat is the founder and principal of High Ridge Financial Planning, an independent Registered Investment Advisory firm in Northampton, Massachusetts. High Ridge serves singles, couples, traditional and non-traditional families who seek professional guidance for their investments and financial concerns. By offering hourly, as-needed investment and advisory services, High Ridge delivers independent financial advice for people at all income levels and needs.  As a fee-only advisor, High Ridge works solely for its clients and acts as their fiduciary throughout the relationship.

About Doug

Doug is a former director of SRI World Group, Inc. a financial information services firm which provides investing information and services to individual investors, institutional investors and corporations. Doug typically worked with large organizations in this capacity, he founded High Ridge Financial Planning to apply his experience to individuals.

While at SRI World Group, Inc, Doug was the primary author of Sustainable and Responsible Investment Strategies: A Guide for Fiduciaries and Institutional Investors, which is utilized by pension funds, foundations and endowments to guide their engagement on these issues. Doug also assisted publicly-traded companies in reporting extra-financial data to social investors.

Previously Doug was a marketing manager for UTC Fuel Cells, a division of United Technologies that makes advanced fuel-efficient, non-polluting power generation equipment. In this capacity he worked to site fuel cells at hospitals, office buildings and wastewater treatment facilities while also assisting with the strategic development of new products.

Doug earned his MBA at the Yale School of Management and also earned a Masters degree in environmental management at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. Doug has passed the NASD Series 65 (Uniform Investment Advisor Law exam), completed the Boston University’s program for professional financial planners, and passed the CFP certification examination and will be authorized to use the CFP® mark of distinction after meeting the board’s specific experience requirements.

Doug lives with his wife and two young sons in the village of Florence, in Northampton Massachusetts. He is on the Board of Directors of the Passcommuck Conservation Trust. He enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, camping, biking, running, gardening, and doing general fix-up projects around the house.
